Article: Vintage or second-hand?

Vintage or second-hand?

Vintage or second-hand?

Almost every garment in the thrift store is marked with the label 'vintage'. The term is often used for 'ordinary' second-hand clothing. They do this to make the items look a bit more fashionable. No need for this as far we're concerned! Second-hand is just as trendy as vintage and just as durable.

Second-hand, as the term indicates, refers to any piece of clothing that was owned and worn by someone else at some point in time. Basically, everything you buy and what previously had an owner is second-hand.

Vintage refers to a category within second-hand clothing. This clothing was produced some time ago but still has a good quality and can be worn again.

Buying vintage
If you want to wear vintage, look in stores that have vintage in the name or description. You can also find vintage items in thrift stores, for this you have to search carefully! There are also vintage garments offered at different markets. Since there is a lot of demand for this clothing, prices are often high. We also have a nice selection of vintage items in our web shop, feel free to take a look!

When shopping for vintage clothing it is important to pay attention to the sizes. Women's clothing sizes have changed considerably over time. A garment from the 50's or 60's is 4 to 6 sizes larger than modern sizes. So, a dress from that time that has size 40 would today be about a size 34. As the garments get closer to the present day (for example a garment that was made in the late 80's or 90's), you can assume that the sizes will be more in line with what you wear now.

Wearing vintage clothes
Vintage clothing can be a great addition to your wardrobe. They can express your personality, taste and style and can make you feel like you're wearing a part of history. It can be a wonderful statement, allowing you to let others know who you are without saying a word.
