All items are thoroughly reviewed, we use the following marks to indicate the quality of an item:
- New item
An item that's new and unworn. Sometimes, it still has the original tags attached. - Like new
An item in excellent condition. With little to no signs of wear. - Good
An item in used condition. It's a little worn in, but you'd barely notice. - Used
An item with some wear and tear. It's loved and lived in. Think noticeable fabric pilling or worn cuff edges. - Poor
An item that's definitely had a good life. Noticeable wear and tear. Think, loose stitches, minor stains, missing buttons. Perfect for a bit of your TLC to jazz it up, and always sold at a discounted price.
Our pricing reflects the item's condition. We don't want to bin any unique or special pieces just because they show some wear. So when we find something that deserves another chance, we'll price it down and let you give it some love.
We guarantee that every item we sell is authentic. Our expert authenticators rigorously inspect every aspect of the clothes. Only stuff with their approval gets sold.
Labels are just the tip of the iceberg. Our experts know where to find the hidden information.
They’ll evaluate authenticity by checking:
- Labels
- Materials
- Workmanship
- Tags
- Logos
- Fastenings
- Details
In our vintage category, everything is at least 20 years old.
To gauge if an item is authentic vintage, our expert vauthenticators assess them based on their brand, style, and craftsmanship.
Online, we also have an extensive collection of secondhand clothes that are not yet vintage. These clothes are pre-loved, but still in good condition.
We only sell one of each item, in one size.
Our handmade vintage stuff really is one of a kind. Grabbing a piece tagged as Handmade guarantees you’ll get something only you’ll be seen in.
Items in your cart are not reserved until you checkout.
This means another shopper could buy the item you are looking at. So you must be quick if you find something you want.
Unfortunately, because every item is unique, there is only one chance for one person to buy it.
While we cannot find you the same item again, we can always inspire you to find something similar you like in a future drop.
We only have each item in one size. We cannot find them in another.
If an item is too large, but otherwise perfect, you can always have it tailored to fit.

We do not list items by their old vintage sizes (because those are different every time).
On each item page, there is a Size Information table to compare with.
If you have a measuring tape, you can take your own measurements to get specific. If you don't, no problem! You can shop using your current EU size.
Please send us a picture of your item and details of the issue within 48 hours of receiving your package. We'll try and sort it out for you.
We accept returns within 14 days. Check out our returns page for more information.
At ThriftTale we’re all about reducing waste.
Vintage clothing sizing can be a muddle. With each decade, brand and even tailor having their own ideas of sizes and cuts… Sometimes you’re just not sure.
That’s why every item we post is measured and given the closest current EU size on a standard Size Information table.
But size is only one part. Here’s some other things you can do:
- Check your measurements against the chart.
- You can go with your known clothing size, but it’s always handy to double check yourself with a tape measure.
- Consider the style, cut and fabric of the item.
- The shape of a style can change how it fits.
- The fabric can change how the size feels and how it sits.
- Modern fabrics often have a % of stretch included. Vintage fabrics usually don’t.
- Look closely at the item description and photos.
- Any small stains or defects are always noted in the description. We’ll cut you a bargain though.
- It’s normal for vintage and secondhand clothes to have a small amount of wear and tear. A bit wear still falls under Good condition.
- Our item photos are mostly flatlays (so we can get them up on the site fast and with less costs to you). But a flatlay can make items look wider. Keep that in mind when assessing style.
If you like an item, but you’re unsure about some stuff, you can ask us questions here.
