7 tips: How to shop trendy and sustainable

Would you like to make your wardrobe more sustainable, but you’re not sure how? With these tips we help you with that!

1. Find your own style
First, it is important to find out what your own style is. Search your wardrobe and look for garments that you really like and that make you feel confident. These garments point you to the direction of your style. They may, for example, have certain common features such as fit, color or brand. Use Pinterest and Instagram for inspiration, use keywords such as ‘outfit inspiration’, ‘streetstyle’ or ‘vintage’ and create a mood board of clothing and combinations that suit you. This way you find out what your style is, so that you will never waste money again!

2. Clean out your closet
Now it is time to tidy up your wardrobe. Try to keep only the garments you really like and that match your style. How often have you worn a garment? Has it been a while since you´ve worn the garment? And would you miss it if it wasn’t there anymore? Discard clothes that do not make you happy anymore (take them to the thrift store).

3. Choose quality
Buy good quality clothes. This may cost more but will eventually save you money. This is more sustainable because you buy less clothes and therefore less raw materials are wasted (did you know that about 8,000 liters of water are needed to produce a pair of jeans?!). Also, good-quality clothing often looks nicer and feels more comfortable, so this is a win-win situation.

4. Make combinations
In the morning you have a hard time trying to decide what to wear. Not because you have no choice, but because you don’t know what to combine. This makes you feel like you need to buy even more clothes. When shopping, try to make combinations with clothes you already have. This saves time in the morning and reduces stress.

5. DIY
Did you know your brain produces happiness substances (dopamine) when you work on something creative? Make or alter your own clothes! Ask your mother or grandma for help or attend a course. That way you can make something unique that no one else has. How cool is that!

6. Clothing swap
The cheapest way to score a new outfit is to swap clothes with someone. Make your friend happy with that shirt you never wear, but also looks good on her. Maybe she has something nice for you to wear to that party this weekend. Sustainable and fun!

7. Buy second-hand
And finally: buy second-hand. Go to the thrift store or shop online. Garments are reused, for which no new raw material is needed. This is very sustainable! We have a nice selection of vintage clothing in our webshop that really deserves a second chance.
